On July 27th and July 28th 2022, just as the film was in its final stage of post production, a catastrophic flood devastated the Eastern Kentucky region. Many of the places shown in the film were severely impacted or totally destroyed, not to mention the impact on the people we filmed and got to know while making this project.
Provided below is a list of places to donate to the ongoing rebuilding and recovery efforts.
The Appalachian Artisan Center is a community of artisans in Hindman, Kentucky including the Appalachian School of Luthiery and the Culture of Recovery program featured in the film which all suffered severe damage in the flood. Current efforts to rebuild are underway, any support is greatly appreciated.
Hindman Settlement School is a base of operations for relief. They continue to be a focal point for preserving the culture and artistic traditions in the region as recovery continues.
Governor Beshear has established the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund to assist those impacted by the floods and the severe weather system beginning July 26, 2022. All donations to the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund are tax-deductible and donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes after donating.
The American Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money and resources from individuals in the local community, corporate partners and like-minded foundations to do its work.
The Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation Flood Relief Fund is accepting monetary donations online to help provide victims with generators, transportation, food, water and access to health care and medicine. The organization is also accepting donations of cleaning supplies, nonperishable food and water at its office at 2260 Executive Drive in Lexington.
